Shot in 1984 not long before I left Richmond to take on a darkroom position at Time Inc. in NYC.

Richmond, Virginia

From an original 35mm B&W negative. Shot on an estate in upstate New York, this little girl stopped playing for about one second and gave me a smile. Love the straw hat.

Walking to work in Manhattan I came across this cab driver clearing snow off his windshield. I pointed to my camera and he immediately went into this pose. During my nine years in New York City I often heard the phrase “that guy” tagged onto the end of a sentence. Southerners do something similar with “y’all”. Grammar aside, when I printed the BW negative for the first time I knew what the title would be.

Shot the same winter as “#2”. I always felt that the bare tree limbs against the dark sky made the picture a little scary.

Located in Amado, Arizona and built in the 1970s this sometimes restaurant was photographed in B/W by Linda McCartney and is included in one of her portfolios. I shot the location twice in one day looking for the best angle of sunlight. The second visit was the ticket as the sun’s position, clouds and the lack of distractions made the shot work.

Originally this started out as an exercise to see if I could get only the lettering of the Constitution to cross over the Statue. The image of the Constitution was obtained online. I photographed the Statue of Liberty in August 2017. This image was completed a month later.

Taken in Yellowstone Park, Sept 2017. The solitary buffalo was standing on a hill in the snow as we were passing through the park. I used a long lens so as not to get too close to the animal.

Colorful hats for sale in this small town in southeast Sicily.

Shot at dusk so the NYC streetlights would not be overpowered by a bright sky. I particularly like the guy with the headphones, the moving yellow taxi and the tottering man.

Shot at dusk from a hotel balcony (thank you Claudia) with a very wide lens. Printed several times over the next seven years I think this version closest resembles the actual scene.

Bottles of Limoncello for sale in Capri Town on the Island of Capri.

Taken during the dedication church service of this congregation at their new location in Richmond. Had the church members not encouraged and allowed me to photograph during this service, I would not have been able to get this exuberant and colorful image.
